Icon for Oldham is a plan to provide a major new public artwork as part of a concerted campaign to raise the profile of the town and enhance its image locally, regionally and nationally. The project will also mark the principal vehicle route into Oldham, once the most important cotton manufacturing town in the world. Oldham is now re asserting its status in the North West Region and intends to restore a real sense of pride of place. The Rijksakademie Research Residency in Amsterdam is an international research and production place for talented, professional artists from all over the world. The Rijksakademie is more than a residency. It has extensive technical facilities, a library, artists??? documentation and art collections. In addition the Rijksakademie offers material basic facilities such as a studio, a work budget, mediation with accommodation and grants. Each year approximately twenty-five artists are invited for a residency. Artists can apply for a residency from January to December 2009 by using the online application form. The Roswell Museum and Art Center is seeking an artist (or team of artists) to create a permanent, outdoor commemorative sculpture to honor rocket pioneer Dr. Robert Hutchings Goddard. The sculpture will be situated prominently at the northeast corner of the Museum grounds near Dr. Goddard's original rocket launch tower, a structure that rises approximately 100 feet above the ground.
