Saltire Society Award for Art in Architecture 2011 - Matt Baker and David Ralston

10 Oct 2011

A ceremony at The Burrell Collection in Glasgow on Friday 7th October saw the bi-annual Saltire Society Award for Art in Architecture in Scotland awarded to Matt Baker and David Ralston for their work on the Castle Square public space project in Stranraer.

There are 4 artworks closely integrated into the overall scheme these are Wiel, Greywacke and Bubbles by Matt Baker and The Erratice by David Ralston.

The overall scheme was designed by Smith Scott Mullan Associates (Edinburgh) and was complimented by the judges as a fine example of a collaboration between artists and architects that ties together as a whole and makes a useful cultural contribution to a place.

The Artworks commissions were managed by Jan Hogarth (formerly dgArts and now Wide-Open) and the Client for the project was Dumfries and Galloway Council.

There is an overview of the project online here and detailed background to the process behind the works here.
