Brief for Public Art Project Manager: Development Phase
Fee: £4200
Duration: 10 weeks
Commencing: Feb/March 2011
Ferguslie Park Housing Association is seeking to appoint an individual with extensive professional experience in the field of socially engaged and public art project management, to deliver the development phase of this substantial public art project.
Background
Ferguslie Park Housing Association was awarded funding from the Scottish Arts Council (now Creative Scotland) Inspiring Communities scheme, to develop and deliver an inter-generational outdoor gathering space at the Tannahill Centre in Paisley.
The vision within the application is for a sound and light garden situated in the external space around the centre, designed and built for all ages, and animated by audio and visual creative play. The project could also include opportunities to integrate artwork
within the foyer of the centre itself. It is important to emphasise that the work is not prescribed by the application, and there is scope to develop an open brief for an artist or artists to take forward.
The Brief
The aim of this development period is to develop a clear and deliverable brief for a Lead Artist, who will then be engaged to take the main phase of the project forward.
In order to produce this brief the Project Manager will work with the project steering group and other stakeholders within the community, providing expertise and support to allow the group to become an informed and engaged project client.
The development process will take place over 10 weeks in early 2011, and will include
??? a project launch event,
??? open workshops led by various professionals in the field
??? go-see trips
??? design planning events
??? final presentation for the community, to be exhibited at the Tannahill Centre.
A recruitment process will follow the development phase, and a Lead Artist will be appointed to devise and deliver the artwork in response to the brief, supported by the steering group and a project manager. The full budget for this phase has been secured.
The contract is for a 10-week period, and will commence as soon as possible after appointment.
The post will be based at the Tannahill Centre in Paisley. It is advised that the Project Manager has their own transport.
The fee for the project is £4,200, which will include all travelling expenses and VAT.
A separate budget is available to facilitate the events, which it will be the responsibility of the Project Manager to manage.
Management
The post will be supported by the project steering group, which is made up of individuals who are active in the centre and around the community. It will be line-managed by Robert Craig, Chief Executive of Ferguslie Park Housing Association. Additional support
will be provided though Creative Scotland.
How to Apply
If you are interested in undertaking this work, reply confirming that you are in a position to meet the timescale and deliver what is expected and include:
??? A letter in response to the brief; explaining why you are interested in this opportunity, your proposed approach to the project and what relevant experience you could bring to it
??? CV, include websites/blogs that any of your projects may be featured on.
??? Names and contact details (address, email and phone) for 2 referees who know your recent professional work relevant to this proposal.
