Planning Awards in Scotland

The Scottish Government runs the Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning. Launched in 1998 they look to promote quality developments that have been achieved through effective planning processes. They celebrate the positive contributions that individuals and organisations in all sectors make to enabling high quality development in Scotland.

There are five categories of award:

  • Development Plans
  • Development Management
  • Development on the Ground
  • Community Involvement
  • Quality of Service

Anyone can enter, including local authorities, consultants, developers, voluntary organisations and community groups.

A panel of 3 judges make their recommendations for awards and commendations to Scottish Ministers. They may also recommend an Overall Winner Award for outstanding achievement.

At the award ceremony presentations are also made for the Designing Places Student Competition and the Sir Patrick Geddes Memorial Trust Awards Scheme.

2012 Awards Timetable

  • Launch end January 2012
  • Submission of entries by end March 2012
  • Application sift April 2012
  • Interview and site visits in May / June 2012
  • Awards ceremony in September 2012

In the meantime, the Scottish Government will be focusing on identifying and sharing of good practice via Forums and Case Studies.
