Open Calls at the Market Gallery
15 Dec 2010
Open Call: Studio Projects 24 & 25
Market Gallery is inviting applications from artists (working alone or collaboratively) for Studio Projects 24 & 25. March ??? April 2011
During the past six years, the Studio Project at Market has been developed to support emerging artists and artists??? collectives. This is a unique opportunity for artists to focus on the development of their practice during an intensive period, followed by an exhibition. The experience is beneficial to all artists involved and acts as a springboard for their practice, securing further residencies and exhibitions.
The successful applicants will have 24-hour access to one of the gallery???s shop fronted spaces to use as a studio and exhibition space. The studio residency will last a total of 4 weeks starting in March 2011 and will be followed by a 4 week exhibition in April. Artists will be expected to treat Market Gallery spaces as an open studio, allowing progress to be visible and also encouraging interaction.
The artists will be contractually obliged to provide an educational strand to the residency: this often takes the form of an artists??? talk or a workshop. Market will also provide mentorship support during these residencies, with Studio Project artists selecting an established artist or curator to provide a tutorial.

Open Call: Curator Residency Program
Market Gallery would like to invite emerging and established curators to apply for their new Gallery Project as part of their exhibition programme 2010-2011.
Based in the East End of Glasgow, Market is dedicated to showing the work of contemporary artists at all stages of their career. Market provides highly visible, free, street- level access to a wide variety of contemporary art exhibitions whilst offering a broad range of opportunities for participation in visual art.
This residency will provide the curator with the time, space and support to develop their work as well as allowing the Market committee to work alongside a dedicated curator for the first time.
The project will run in two halves. The first part will last for three months and will allow the curator to research ideas and curatorial strategies and approach. The curator will be based within the newly converted gallery space at 334 Duke Street.
