Olympic and Paralympic Games Public Art Commission

2012 sees the Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to the United Kingdom for the first time in over 60 years. To celebrate these momentous events, Aberdeen City Council is looking to commission an artist or organisation who can develop a temporary public art piece, performance or event which will harness the wave of excitement and energy created the games and which will highlight the positive role of culture and sport in the city.
Who can apply?
Artists / arts organisations who can demonstrate a history of delivering high quality, innovative art practice within the public realm. You must have the capacity to develop and deliver the project within the Aberdeen area and a track record or interest in reflecting the social and cultural life of a particular place or region, working with communities or within regeneration.
What level of funding is available?
A budget of up to £20,000 has been set for the artist to carry out all aspects of the commission. This budget will include the artist time and expenses and within your application you must include details on your fee. Travel is included in the fee and it is expected that the artist or organisation plans their travel in advance to minimise expenditure. Upon appointment the proposed fee will be used as a basis for establishing a written agreement between Aberdeen City Council and the artist or organisation.
How to apply
Applicants should complete the Public Art Commission 2012 application form alongside a CV (individuals only) and examples of previous work. If sending by email please ensure these examples are no bigger than 1200 × 1200 dpi.
All completed forms should be returned via email to vibrantaberdeen@aberdeencity.gov.uk or alternatively can be mailed to: Public Art Commission 2012, Arts Development, Education, Culture & Sport, Ground Floor, AECC Balgownie 1, Conference Way, Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, AB23 8AQ.
Applications must be received by 5pm on Friday 25th of November 2011.
