North Light
29 Nov 2011
North Light is a season of interlinked cross art form happenings taking place in and around Dunbar in 2012 responding to the unique nature of Dunbar and the John Muir Way, and its enduring capacity to inspire. In June artists will be invited to display Art Works/Installations which will be sited in various locations & exhibition spaces, around the town and the closes, and along the John Muir Way including the working harbour. A site visit will be arranged for those who wish to select a preferred location.
Proposals are sought from all practitioners across art forms: visual and applied arts, light, sound, installation, film, literature, poetry, music, performance, theatre, dance. There is also potential for projects with an element of social engagement and food growing initiatives.
Dunbar has historically been a place of transition, hemmed in by the Lammermuir Hills and the sea; it sits in a fertile geological plane cut through by the artery of the old Great North Road. Known for its huge clear blue light-filled skies its horizon looks North over the waters of the Forth. The rich natural and elemental resources of our locality have inspired enlightened thinking from pioneers such as James Hutton and also John Muir whose ideology continues to inform a contemporary environmental ethos.
