Glasgow Sculpture Studios Education Programme

Glasgow Sculpture Studios are running a range of courses teaching practical sculptural techniques, taught by practicing artists.

The courses offer an in-depth understanding of techniques and processes, and are delivered in the Studios??? production resource, and are available as evening courses or learning weekends.

Although these courses are designed for the general public aged 16+, who want to learn the basics of sculptural techniques, some are also suitable for artists wishing to develop new skills. Contact the GSS office to find out more.

Metal Fabrication

Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 August
11am ??? 4pm
£100 Full / £90 Concessions

You’ll learn to use forging, welding and plasma cutting equipment in this intensive weekend course. Whether you have a specific idea for something you???d like to make or just want to try something new, you???ll gain a wealth of knowledge and hands on experience in metal working.

This course is suitable for beginners and those with limited experience who would like to become more familiar or gain confidence using the various machinery. Places on this course are limited to 6.

Due to popular demand we will also run this course over the weekend of 16 – 17 October 2010

Paper Clay

Tuesdays 07 September – 06 October
6.00pm – 8.00pm
£90 Full / £81 Concessions

This class will introduce the fundamental techniques of paper clay from the various methods of preparing the materials to forming and decorating techniques. Make a functional item, a figurative or abstract sculpture or perhaps even a piece of jewellery.

Suitable for all levels of experience, places on this course are limited to 6.

Ceramics Hand Building

Wednesdays 01 September – 06 October
6.00pm ??? 8.00pm
£90 Full / £81 Concessions

Over six weeks, we will introduce you to a variety of fundamental ceramic techniques including pinching, coiling, slab building and glazing. Learn how to create your own three dimensional forms in clay as well as exploring various printing and glazing techniques, this could mean making your own kitchenware, tiles or creative sculpture.

This course makes a great gift for someone. Suitable for all levels of experience. Places are limited to 6.

Mould Making

Saturdays 04 September – 09 October
10am ??? 12 midday
£125 Full / £95 Concessions

Book our six-week introductory course to the basic processes involved in Mould Making. You will explore mould making using a variety of materials including rubber, wax and plaster, learning what materials are most suitable for casting a variety of objects. You can come with a specific project in mind, or you can develop one with your course tutor. Remember to bring your own object so that you can make a mould and cast of it.

Suitable for all levels of experience, places on this course are limited to 6.

Plaster Carving

Saturdays 04, 11 & 18 September
12 midday – 4pm
£125 Full / £95 concessions

Plaster has always been a popular material as it???s so versatile. This course is intended to introduce you to the material in a sculptural context. This interactive session will have you mixing the plaster for its various applications with a main focus on different carving techniques.

Suitable for all levels of experience, places on this course are limited to 6.
