Forest Pitch - Call for Football Players

20 Sep 2011

Do you play football?

Have you become a British citizen since the year 2000?

Would you like to participate in an exciting new project for Artists’ Taking the Lead, part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad?

An exciting opportunity now exists for people to participate in the London 2012 Festival by signing up to take part in Forest Pitch; a major public art commission being created by artist Craig Coulthard and produced in association with PACE. This major commission aims to encourage debate about national identity, the natural world, sustainability, the nature of collective memory and the benefits of sporting participation. It will act as a small-scale mirror to the London 2012 Games.

Forest Pitch is now looking for recent British Citizens to take part in a unique football event. They are looking to form four teams – two of men, two of women – to compete in one-off games on a specially created pitch set deep within a forest in the borders of Scotland in July 2012. As well as the opportunity to take part in the project as part of the London 2012 Festival, participants will receive professional level coaching and specially designed strips, will have their travel expenses paid and players’ friends and family will receive front row tickets to the games. The project is also being made into a film and a publication, and each player’s progress will be documented on the Forest Pitch official website.

Prospective players (male and female) must be:

1. Over 18 years old
2. Resident in Scotland
3. Have become registered British citizens at any time since the year 2000

Players can register their interest in taking part by filling in their details on the Forest Pitch website (www.forestpitch.org) by clicking “take part” then “I want to play!”.

Players must register by Friday 30th September 2011. Once registered, each participant will be given the opportunity to test out their skills in series of trials that will take place in the major cities of Scotland in November 2011, with successful applicants commencing training in early 2012.
