Elizabeth Maginnis Court ??? Artists Commission
4 Oct 2010
An innovative model of housing with flexible care is being developed in Royston Mains Crescent, Edinburgh. Development of the new facility has started on site and will be completed in 2011. It will provide accommodation for 68 mainly older people, as well as day care services for residents and older people who live in the local community. The contribution of the late Elizabeth Maginnis is to be commemorated by naming the unit in her memory.
A large scale art work in memory of Elizabeth Maginnis is to be commissioned to hang in the open plan stairway of the main entrance and public meeting area of the new complex. It is to reflect her vibrant personality and commitment to the local community. Artists should work with local schools and community groups to develop the work as well as the late Cllr Maginnis’ family. The work should also be respectful of its surroundings and residents of the complex.
The artist can propose to work in any medium they think may be suitable for the space; however a 2-dimensional textile/collaged piece may best suit the space. The space will measure 4200 × 2500mm.
The artist would preferably be local to the Forth Ward or Edinburgh although this is not mandatory.
Artists fee in the region of £2000
