Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop wins Arts Funding Prize for Edinburgh

1 Nov 2010

Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop???s proposal to build a new development called the ???Creative Laboratories??? has won the Arts Funding Prize for Edinburgh.

The £3million prize was coordinated by the Scottish Community Foundation on behalf of an anonymous donor. The two other shortlisted candidates were Edinburgh College of Art and the Scottish Book Trust.

Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop has recently been fundraising to build a new sculpture centre, and work on that is due to start soon. Once it???s completed, work on the ???Creative Laboratories???, which will sit alongside it, will get underway.

According to ESW, “The Creative Laboratories will provide a mix of inspiring outdoor and indoor working spaces around a central courtyard. The Creative Laboratories building will allow ESW to support more ambitious artist projects by providing facilities which can’t be accommodated in the sculpture centre.

Viewing areas, information points and a café will make it much easier for the local community and the wider public to engage with our activities, and the flexible workspace and vibrant environment will allow us to open up Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop to a far wider range of disciplines and partners across the city."
