Commission Proposal for Shaftesbury

Proposals wanted for public space in Shaftesbury, on the theme of local heritage, common space and future sustainability. Deadline: 11th June 2010.

This commission is for an artist/designer/maker to research and develop proposals for public space in Shaftesbury, with the Shaftesbury Civic Society and the local community. The key themes of the project are local heritage, common space and future sustainability.

It is envisaged that research and development of ideas would take place between June and September 2010 with the resulting project to be implemented as part of a second phase of work and subject to fundraising.

The fee for the research and development stage is £5,000 inclusive of expenses.

This project is a partnership between Shaftesbury Civic Society and the “Dorset Design and Heritage Forum(DDHF)”http://www.dorsetforyou.com/index.jsp?articleid=390645 and is being undertaken as part of Wide Open Space a scheme which aims to support the production of innovative art in the public realm that addresses rural agendas. The project is curated by Alex Murdin for Willis Newson the leading arts, health and education consultancy in the UK and supported by Arts Council England www.artscouncil.org.uk
