Streetland is an annual festival celebrating community and the street taking place on Saturday, the 30th of April, 2011, with openings on Friday 29th April.

The festival will serve as a platform for a number of events, exhibitions, and performances with anchor events centred on Westmoreland Street in Govanhill at The Chalet, The Govanhill Baths, South Side Studios, and Westmoreland Street Gardens.

Film Event Westmoreland St. Gardens

Westmoreland St. Gardens is a temporary green space situated on the site of an old cinema. The space, the size of approximately 2 tenement blocks, is surrounded on all sides by traditional tenement flats, with a main entrance on Westmoreland St. Either side of the park are tenement ends. The more northerly end was used to project films onto at last year’s Streetland festival and it is envisaged that this will be the main screen for this film event.

Last year the spectacle of an outside cinema was successful in attracting a wide range of people to view a variety of films. Building on this success, the Streetland cinema is programmed as a key event of 2011’s festival.

Opportunity

The Streetland steering group is looking to appoint an individual/group to programme and compere an evening of film and entertainment, at the Streetland festival Saturday 30th April.

It is essential that the person/persons taking on this role have experience staging this type of event and can demonstrate the resourcefulness, technical ability and creativity to make this a distinct and engaging event.

Sourcing material in the form of short films for the cinema is part of this role. Support can be provided to make links with local organisations and film makers if required. The film program should aim to be appropriate to a diverse audience whilst retaining a high degree of artistic merit and originality; therefore someone with a knowledge base in film is preferred.

Although the emphasis is on screening films, they are keen to appoint someone who can work with others to simply and effectively deliver an outdoor cinema ‘experience’, theming and perhaps compering the event to enhance audience participation and enjoyment.
