Call for Submissions: Market Gallery Studio Projects 26 /27

The Studio Project at Market Gallery has been developed to support emerging artists and artists’ collectives. It provides a unique opportunity for artists to focus on the development of their practice during an intensive period of production followed by an exhibition.
The successful applicants will have 24-hour access to one of the gallery’s shop fronted spaces for use as a studio and exhibition space. The residency will last a total of 4 weeks followed by a 4 week exhibition. Artists will be expected to treat Market Gallery spaces as an open studio, allowing progress to be visible and also encouraging interaction with the public.
Aims of the Residency
The residency aims to provide time and space for the development of ideas and production of new work and to facilitate the artists’ career development by providing opportunities for discussion and networking. The artists will also be expected to conduct an education event that coincides with their practice or exhibition this often takes the form of a talk, workshop or event. Market are particularly interested in applications that deal with the education strand in innovative and challenging ways.
Studio Project artists will also be asked to select an established artist or curator to provide a tutorial during the residency, providing a valuable mentorship opportunity for the successful applicants.
Terms and Conditions
- Applicants must not be within full time education
- Should consider the nature of Market’s spaces in their application
- Artists will be expected to lead on all aspects of their project
- Artists must de-install the exhibition and return the space to its original state
Market Gallery will
- Provide the artist with a fee of £400 paid on the completion of the project
- Provide a budget of up to £400 for materials and production costs of the show.
- Provide internet and telephone access
- Assist with the project and installation
- Provide marketing support and cover costs of print where appropriate
- Support the artist practice through discussion with the committee

- A proposed budget of the project would be helpful but is not essential
- Your interest in undertaking the residency

- What area of research you intend to do.
