Call for proposal: manifestaZOOne 2011
31 May 2011
Entrance to the fifth edition of the international exhibition for urban bill-board art manifestaZOOne is officially open , this year supplemented by a series of prizes and new collaborations.
The contest, organized by the association Art.ur invites artists and graphic artists to design an advertising bill-board, a conventional medium of public communication, creatively reinvented and preferably ironic, based on a theme of public interest proposed by the organizers.
The project subverts the function and nature of the advertising bill-board, typically used for commercial messages, transforming it into a space for artistic reflection. It intends to place an instrument that provides alternative information within the urban landscape that is freely accessible to the public.
The theme chosen by the curators of manifestaZOOne 2011 is “SOS-tainable horizons”, referring to the need to imagine and support the creation of ecologically sustainable ways of living based on renewable energy, responsible distribution of resources and an overall reevaluation of our social needs.
The winner of the contest will receive a prize of 1000 euro, delivered during a conference about the Eco-sustainability included in “Scrittorincittà” literature festival, a partner of the initiative. The first three selected works will be printed 6 × 3 m and attached in various advertising spaces within Cuneo and other cities within the Cuneo Province in November during “Scrittorincittà”.
A special collaboration with the “Busta” creative free-pack initiative will permit one of the creators of the selected works to be contacted by the editors, to transform the image chosen into the front cover of an issue of “Busta”.
Interested parties are requested to send an image that can be printed in a format of 6 × 3 meters by post before the 15th of September 2011.
Participation is free.
ManifestaZOOne is supported once again this year by the Piedmont Region, Cuneo Province, Cuneo City, Turin City, the CRC foundation, the CRT foundation, the Gai, “Scrittorincittà”, Contemporary art, the European Institute for Design of Turin, the Gaia Collection of Busca, the Architects Chamber and AAEnergy s.r.l.
