Beacon: New South Glasgow Hospitals

23 Sep 2011

Imagine that you can draw the whole landscape of Scotland into one building. That building is the New South Glasgow Hospital.

The selected artist/designer or team undertaking this project will develop an overall conceptual approach to the Beacon. The Beacon comprises the adult wards of the New South Glasgow Hospitals: eight floors, two wards per floor, all single rooms with views. From the lift cores, through the ward corridors to the socialisation spaces (read ward sitting rooms), there are spaces allocated for a number of different types of works of art relating to the landscape.

This project needs to offer an overall narrative or conceptual structure which differentiates the wards, giving each an identity within an overall scheme. The project therefore contributes to way-finding, but also fundamentally contributes to the healing environment.

Expressions of interest are sought for a lead artist/designer or a team to develop this key project in close collaboration within Nightingales Associates’ overall Wayfinding and Interiors Strategies.

Approximate total value of the installed work: £100,000 ex vat.
