Deveron Arts and Peacock Visual Arts are offering a six-month fellowship to an arts professionals of minority ethnic background. The Fellows will contribute significantly to the curatorial and programming activities which include supporting artistic practice through an integrated programme of exhibitions, events, creative projects and public engagement.

CONTEXT

Deveron Arts is based in Huntly, in Aberdeenshire. The town – identity, people, politics, and history – is the starting point for the work of the artists who are normally invited from all over the world to live and work here. Deveron Arts has neither gallery space nor arts centre. Instead, the town is the venue, is the guiding motto, providing the context for the projects and programme; generated through collaborative practice from visual and other art forms. Through this model, the team works with residing artists on collaborative projects establishing a fitting match between identified themes, community groups and venues.

Peacock Visual Arts is the leading professional visual arts organisation in Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland providing a wide range of production facilities and learning opportunities for artists and public and a diverse programme of exhibitions, residencies, commissions, film screenings, talks, music gigs and contemporary dance performances.

THE FELLOWSHIP

The Fellowship is open to professionals who have worked in the sector for a minimum of five years and have a strong track record equivalent to that of a senior curator or an arts writer with a portfolio. The prospective Fellow would be expected to undertake an agreed portfolio of projects during the lifetime of the Fellowship.

The Fellow will be expected to contribute significantly to Deveron Arts??? curatorial activities and also to the partnership with Peacock Visual Arts. This may include curating exhibitions and events, the design and delivery of creative projects, public engagement or a portfolio of arts writing projects. A knowledge and interest in socially engaged arts is advantageous.

They are particularly interested in individuals with established networks within the contemporary arts world, excellent research and writing skills and awareness of issues within contemporary visual art, as well as issues about diversity, representation, migration and diaspora.

The Fellow will also develop his/her own professional development plan, which could be based on:

  • Working on one or more specific element/s of Deveron Arts??? programme (eg devising a series of critical events; developing a curatorial project; undertaking new critical writing)
