2-4pm, Saturday 27th October 2007, at Market Gallery, 334 Duke St, Dennistoun, Glasgow, G31 1QZ. All welcome.
This public event is hosted by Variant Magazine and Market Gallery, Glasgow, to discuss art in the age of competitive cultural nationalism. The event is part of the HOST programme at the gallery. For a synopsis of the symposium, click here.
As a forum for discussion this will be an opportunity for artist run spaces, collectives and individuals to gather together and debate the possibilities and challenges raised by this theme.
A key text for discussion will be Marita Muukkoneri’s text ‘Between a Rock and a Hard Place – the possibilities for contemporary art institutions to function as critical political spaces’. The organisers ask that you please read Marita’s text before the event. It is available here. For more information visit www.variant.org.uk and www.marketgallery.org.uk
