Shadowed Spaces - Tune Up
5 Jul 2007
Building on the success of our Resonant Spaces tour last year, this summer, as part of Tune Up, we’re visiting a series of unobserved and unconsidered places that fall between the cracks of our towns and cities, ones that don’t show up on maps. Not forgotten spaces, but secret places, places that make no sense, on the other side of the tracks, shaded from the eyes of parents, janitors and other keepers of the norms.
There are places in our towns and cities that exist not by design, but by circumstance, and in which you can sometimes find a sense of privacy in public. Shadowed Spaces is a tour of exactly these kinds of spaces, setting improvised musical performances (on one level a private thing, done publicly) in overlooked corners and unconsidered nooks and crannies.
We’re taking with us 3 experimental musicians, each with a keen interest in these kinds of locations, and a psychogeographer, to set the whole thing in context.
We’ll be visiting:
Aberdeen: 7:30pm, Friday 6th July
Dundee: 7:30pm, Sunday 8th July
Easterhouse: 7:30pm, Tuesday 10th July
Newcastle: 7:30pm, Thursday 12th July
Cumbernauld: 3:30pm, Saturday 14th July
Edinburgh: 7:30pm, Sunday 15th July
Tune Up is an initiative of the Scottish Arts Council to support music touring in Scotland. It is funded by National Lottery and was established in 2003 to bring high quality live music to communities the length and breadth of the country.
