Symposium: Call for Papers for move09, Manchester

23 Jan 2009

moves09 will run a series of 8 forums exploring the narrative possibilities of movement on screen, to take place at the Cornerhouse, Manchester’s international centre for contemporary visual arts and film.

Dates: 23 – 28th April 2009. Deadline for papers: 5pm, 13th February.

Now in its 5th year, moves is established as the largest exhibition platform in the UK for experimental short film and new media with a unique focus on movement, exploring new ways of telling stories through films, installations and screen- based work.

Each forum will start with a paper followed by a discussion, moderated by an industry professional. Each session will last 1 1/2 hour: 45 minutes for the paper presentation and 45 minutes for the moderated discussion.

moves09 is now inviting submission for papers on three topics:

- narrative possibilities of movement in screen work - poetry and movement for the screen - how technological development is enabling new directions for visually rhythmic experimental film (including screendance), such as machinima work, the development of softwares like eyesweb, arduino.

Proposals should be 500 to 1,000 words long; we will publish a selection of papers from moves09. For more information about moves09 and to view archives from previous festivals, visit www.movementonscreen.org.uk
