Situation Leeds 07: Contemporary Artists and The Public Realm

16 May 2007

Situation Leeds is an independent contemporary visual art festival, bringing together artists and arts organisations to explore art in public places through installations, events, debates, video and publications.

Situation Leeds 14-27 May 2007 Festival of contemporary art at various sites across the city

Situation Leeds is a unique contemporary art festival exploring art in public places and presenting the work of regional and national artists responding to the stimuli offered up by the city, its residents and visitors.

All the projects taking part in the festival, have been selected from an open submission on the basis of the following criteria:

- Art in the public realm has at its core an inextricable relationship with its site, its audience or its social context at a given moment in time.

- Art in the public realm contributes to critical dialogues and debates regarding all the above.

- Art in the public realm can be spectacular, discreet or hidden and can exist in permanent, temporary, ephemeral or intangible forms.

At Situation Leeds we regard the definitions of art in the public realm not as fixed in stone, but as fluid, changing dialogues that seek to engage with a range of propositions.
