Scholarship for MRes in Utopian Studies

24 Apr 2008

The University of Plymouth has a Masters of Research Scholarship available for MRes Utopian Studies for a student starting in October 2008. Scholarship would cover a year of full-time (or 2 years of part-time) fees.

The Faculty of Arts will award this Faculty Postgraduate Scholarship to an eligible candidate starting his/her programme of study in October 2008.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this Scholarship, applicants must be offered and accept a full or part-time place on the programme for the academic year 2008/9.

The MRes Utopian Studies is associated with the The Centre for Critical Cultural Research.
The successful applicant will have his/her fees paid (full time, UK/EU only) for one year (two years for part-time). Non-UK/EU candidates are eligible for the Scholarship but must make up the difference in fees. If this applies to you, then you must confirm in your application to the programme of study that you are able to meet this obligation.

Criteria:

The Selection Panel will consider the information and evidence provided about your ability, aptitude, commitment and preparedness for postgraduate study, and the quality of work you are likely to produce based on this evidence.

Selection will be based on evidence of the following:

A good first degree or equivalent in a subject related to your programme of study;
Your potential to develop research skills;
Critical engagement and self-awareness;
A sense of the ways in which the specific MRes programme will support your scholarly, professional, and/or creative development.

These criteria will be evidenced through the following:

Personal statement, achievements and experience as outlined on your application form to the programme of study;
Your proposal, sample of critical writing and/or evidence of creative/professional practice submitted within your programme application.
your references;
A supporting report by the Programme Manager or Admissions tutor.

Applications will be assessed on a competitive basis to reflect academic merit. We are concerned not only with the viability and quality of the application but also with its relevance and potential contribution to our research communities.

How to Apply:

There is no application form other than the programme application form. All candidates who have been offered and have accepted a place on MRes Utopian Studies programme by the deadline below will be considered for this Scholarship.

Deadline:

To be eligible for this Scholarship, candidates must have accepted their place on the relevant programme in writing by 12 noon on Monday 30 June 2008.

It is the candidate???s responsibility to ensure that this notification has been received by this deadline.

To ensure that a place may be offered and accepted within this timeframe, applications to the programme of study must be made by 30 May 2008. Please note that some MRes
programmes require interviews prior to acceptance.

Notes:

The Faculty will endeavour to notify all candidates of the outcome of the Scholarship competition by 30 July 2008.

Candidates who are not successful in the Scholarship competition may opt to change their enrolment from full-time to part-time.

If the Selection Panel is unable to award a Scholarship to an MRes candidate for any reason, the Faculty may instead award a Scholarship to a suitably qualified candidate
who has been accepted for a place on a comparable programme.

If the successful candidate is also successful in the AHRC research preparation masters competition, s/he is expected to decline this Scholarship offer, which will then be offered to another suitably qualified candidate.
