Cupar Arts Festival 2011
Cupar Arts is a non-profit arts organisation formed in February 2008. It is committed to presenting high-quality cutting edge projects in a rural area of Northeast Fife, and providing opportunities for artists.
Part of Cupar Arts’ programme is the annual The Cupar Arts Festival, which takes place each October, and this year runs for ten days from the 8th – 18th of October. Though primarily a festival of the visual arts, the programme also includes music events and a workshops programme. This year’s festival includes guest artists Richard Demarco, Chad McCail, and Kate Downie, plus approximately forty artists selected from a national submission. Artist’s work will be installed at indoor and outdoor sites and venues across town, with disused buildings and Cupar’s many closes amongst the places where work
can be found.
Cupar Arts works in partnership with Fife Council, local businesses and organisations, and other arts organisations including Fife Contemporary Art & Craft (FCAC). The project is currently funded by Fife Council, with Creative Scotland also supporting an Artist in Residence post.
Cupar Arts’ committees are made up of both art and non-art professionals including Stewart Burt, Jim McLeish, Kathy Watts, Colin MacLean, Fiona McDonald, Linda Greig, Liz Murray, Dawson Murray, Carolyn Scott. Gayle Nelson is Chair of Cupar Arts and the lead organiser of the Visual Arts programme. In this blog she will record the journey taken by the Cupar Arts as the organisation – and the town – gets ready for this year’s Festival.
