Through the work of Alexander Hamilton, this work promotes contemporary art in the traditionally non-arts environment of a science museum with the potential to develop formal links between science and art.

Consultation & Commissioning Process

Alex Hamilton has worked with an architect, structural engineer and landscape designer in creating the proposals. He also consulted with experts on plant physiology and virtual environments as part of the research and development of the artworks.

Dundee Public Arts Programme managed the commissioning of the artist for this project. A list of 19 artists was researched and drawn up by DPAP and Alexander Hamilton was selected by the Project Team.

Outcomes

  • Seed Chamber: vertical lightbox structure with stainless steel base.
  • Circadian Rhythm: an installation of sequential light rhythms leading visitors along a corridor.
  • Miniature Greenhouses: glass cabinets housing genetically modified plants.
